Once your pregnancy is confirmed at the hospital, visit your local city or ward office to submit a pregnancy notification form.

By submitting the pregnancy notification form, you can receive a Maternal and Child Health Handbook, vouchers for subsidized prenatal checkups, consultations with nurses,

public health nurses, or midwives, introductions to maternity and parenting classes, and various informational resources.

This maternal and child health handbook may also be available in foreign language versions.

Additionally, one maternal and child health handbook is issued per child. It keeps a record of everything from pregnancy to the child's birth, health checkups, and vaccinations.

Please note that the handbook generally cannot be reissued. Be sure to bring it with you when taking your child to the hospital, as doctors may check the child's developmental history and vaccination records during consultations. It is also recommended to carry it with you when going out or traveling with your child, just in case.

After submitting the pregnancy notification, in Tokyo, you will be guided to have a 'Yurikago' consultation at the health center of your local city or ward.

The 'Yurikago' consultation may require a reservation. By attending this consultation with a nurse, public health nurse, or midwife, you can receive information about childcare services in your local city or ward. It is also an opportunity to discuss any concerns or issues you may have regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. Be sure to attend the consultation.
